Review - The Little Clock House on the Green by Eve Devon

I love Eve Devon's books and I was really looking forward to reading her latest, The Little Clock House on the Green. I'm so very glad I did! Read on to find out what the first book in the Whispers Wood series is all about...

An absolute must-read for fans of Gilmore Girls!

Welcome to Whispers Wood, a cosy little village in the heart of the English countryside, where everybody knows everybody and rumours are spread thicker than jam on a scone…

When a rival village is awarded Best in Bloom, the residents of Whispers Wood are determined to regain their former glory – and with Old Man Isaac finally selling the clock house on the village green, with two potential buyers, operation ‘Summer Fete’ is on!

For Kate Somersby, the very bricks that make up the clock house hold precious memories of her childhood. Now she’s finally returned home after years of running away, she’s here to make Isaac an offer and ensure her and her beloved sister’s dreams come true. Only entrepreneur Daniel Westlake is standing in her way.

Review

I love, love, loved this book!

If Enid Blyton switched to the adult genre and wrote in 2017 - you'd get the gorgeous setting of Whispers Wood. It's quaint, pretty and everybody in the village knows what each other ate for their breakfast. And who with. So it took a tragic circumstance for Kate Somersby to leave her home, her friends and her family. But when she discovers that the clock house on the village green is up for sale, it tugs on her heart strings and leads her back to home.

Daniel Westlake discovers Whispers Wood entirely by accident and is instantly charmed by the village and a potential business opportunity. But it seems he's not the only one. It's seems the for sale board has a challenge attached. One of those challenges being villager Kate. She's not about to give up her dream. Though she might be a villager, her return hasn't been so easy having left her family behind with their grief. But how could kate have stayed when she was the painful reminder? Daniel and Kate both have a lot to prove in order to win the competition - and they're not about to give up easily.

The challenge is to bring the village back. The sense of community that it was known and loved for. So with Kate and Daniel as rivals they have to pull out the stops to win, roping in friends to do so. Except Daniel doesn't have friends, so he gets the support of Kate's ex brother-in-law, who is still hurt and angry that Kate left. And with Kate having her best friend as her help it gets even trickier. Kate can't give up, not when the clock house means so much to her, so she has to ignore her growing feelings for Daniel. But how long will that last.

There is not just one blossoming romance in this book but two. Kate and Daniel are both well developed characters, but the secondary characters are individual, strong and well developed too, in a love them or hate them way. I mostly loved them all.

I might have compared the setting to an Enid Blyton one of old, however author Eve Devon owns it. The setting is perfect, the characters interesting and Eve Devon has made it fresh and so much fun, despite the sad circumstances of the plot. This book is so, so good! So feel good, humorous and warm. I loathe spoilers so I won't share the funnies :-) The author writes with wit and love and you can feel that. This is my favourite book by Eve Devon and despite it only being March, The Little Clock House on the Green is already a definite contender for my favourite book of 2017! Can't wait for the next book in the series!

This book made my heart happy! Superb!

5 Butterfly Rating!
