Review - Wendy S. Marcus

Today I'm spoiling you. Not one, but two, marvellous medicals from Wendy S. Marcus!

Forget those medical romances you stole from your gran, medicals are now so much more than doctors and nurses playing at, well, doctors and nurses. Try one and see. And you can't go wrong with starting with one of this authors. Wendy S. Marcus always offers up something different. As you'll get a hint of from my review.

#1 The Doctor She Always Dreamed Of

Dare she dream of forever?

Nurse Kira Peniglatt isn’t in the market for a happy-ever-after. Between her busy job and caring for her sick mother, she’s learned the hard way that she comes with too much baggage for most men to handle.

Except Dr. Derrick Limone isn’t most men—he’s caring, funny, outrageously sexy…and he understands that she comes as a package deal. One sizzling kiss from Derrick later, and suddenly Kira hopes… Has she finally found the man she’s always dreamed of?

Review

It would be safe to say that Kira Peniglatt is in need of satisfaction. In all aspects of her life, not least her job. It's this dissatisfaction in her career that at first gave me the wrong impression of Kira. Especially the way she handles a phone call from a client. However, it's the aftermath of this phone call that made me sympathise with her and made me regret my initial assumption. Kira has given up everything to care for her mother. Her nursing career and most especially a life of her own.

Infuriated by the discrepancies in his mother's care package, Dr. Derrick Limone, decides to take matters into his own hands and quickly gets those hands on the person responsible, but not in the way he expected.

For one night, Kira wants to let loose, to forget her responsibilities and do something for herself for a change. But apparently she can't do that right either. Too many drinks, a handsome stranger, and Kira discovers she's been kidnapped.

Derrick quickly realises that he, like me, may have been a little hasty in his judgement of Kira. The more he finds out about her, the more he likes. The consequences of his actions lead him to spending more time with Kira, but she seems determined to keep him out of her life. Can he make her see that he wants her, package deal and all?

Now when I said Ms. Marcus always up something different - without spoilers - this is absolutely the book that offers something very different with the hero. Derrick does something I have never read before - and you will love him for it! The writing is fresh and vibrant and you will fall in love a little more with each page. I did!

#2 The Nurse's Newborn Gift

Brought together by a baby…

Nurse Krissy Peniglatt promised her best friend she’d have his baby through IVF if he didn’t make it home from the front lines. When the time comes to make good on her promise she’s confident she can handle being a single mom. If only Spencer Penn, the baby’s godfather, will agree!

There’s always been tension between them, and yet the warmhearted woman Krissy has become takes Spencer’s breath away. But can he convince Krissy he wants to be a real daddy for her newborn baby?

Review

Now if book 1 was the heart melter, book 2 is the heart breaker!

You first meet Krissy Peniglatt in book 1, as the younger sister of Kira. And to be honest, I wondered how the author was going to redeem this character, who had seemingly, selfishly abandoned her sister and sick mother. Kira again believes her sister is being selfish by deciding to have a baby. Yet redeem her the author absolutely did. Krissy is fulfilling a promise to her best friend by agreeing to have IVF. Another promise is to contact Spencer Penn, the baby's future godfather.

Spencer isn't too happy about meeting up with Krissy again. Even less so when she drops a bombshell on him. A letter from the friend he lost, likely because of Krissy, ties them both together in an unexpected way. The tension between them is still there, as well as his resentment.

No one seems to trust that Krissy can do this alone - including Krissy herself. For most of her life she's tried not to be a burden and she doesn't intend to be one now. Though she does need to face up to some truths in order to move on. And so does Spencer. This couple has serious trust issues.

The backstory to this book is so emotional. And the letters that Krissy hands out are weep inducing. But through it all is the simmering romance between Krissy and Spencer, which I loved, and the conflict that's keeping them apart. Boy does Wendy S. Marcus do emotional well. Stunning!

5 Butterfly Rating!
